This book argues that we need to shift from international competition to global cooperation, from a system of global oligarchy to one of global democracy. Only in that way can we come together to solve global problems in an effective, just and sustainable way, and to create a world where the benefits of our work and our technology are shared more equitably among the whole the humanity. We show that the current order is one with a global economy and a global ecology but with national level politics, and we argue that this scalar problem renders the current international system out-dated, unjust and unsustainable, instead we call for a radical re-organisation of the world system into a global democracy.
